I have been studying and experimenting with photography for over 50 years.
I started my photographic endeavor in Johnstown, Pennsylvania while taking
photography courses at the University of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Art Institute. At time my
work was mostly landscapes of the Alleghenies and Laurel mountains.
Upon moving to Washington, DC in1983 as an IBM Mainframe systems programmer, I
started taking photography courses at Montgomery College, Rockville, MD.
To continue my passion for photography, I formed a company called “Studio to Go."
I can set up a complete studio with backdrops and strobes in less than 30 minutes.
I had several mobile commissions with this unique service. For example, I photographed an
African Art exhibit at the Smithsonian Gallery in Washington, DC.
After photographing the usual landscapes, portraits, products, weddings,
etc, I wanted to do something different. I started to experiment with an Arc Welder.
After some trial and error I was able to capture the explosive activity when the
arc is first struck to the metal. I am gathering data for my welding book
titled “The Art of the Arc”. My inspiration for this work was my career at Bethlehem Steel
in Johnstown, Pa for
18 years. I became familar with the steel making process
and developed an understanding
of metallurgy at the molecular level.
After doing a plethora of landscape photography on the east coast and the west, I
wanted to travel. I went to Bolivia in 1999 to photograph the National Carnival
in the enchanting city of Oruro and a well as other places in Bolivia.
I completed a photo essay
of Bolivia that included the cities of Santa Cruz, Sucre, and La Paz.
I also
traveled the Altiplano to the ancient Aymara temples of Tiahuanaaco.
I spent several months traveling throughout Argentina in the spring of 2008.
I captured the different moods of Buenos Aires.
I traveled south to Punto Tombo
to photograph the Magellan penguins just before they departed to sea.
I then went west to the Patagonia Region to the city of Calafarte
for the “Glacier Perito Moreno",
which was magnificent to photograph. I spent some time in the Northern subtropics
to capture the beauty of Iguazu falls.
A majority of my work has been in been in
South America,
mostly because of the home area of my clients.
I am a life member of the Atlantic City Art Center where I have shown my various
works and
have exhibited my photographs throughout the Washington, DC area.
I am the official photographer of the Cinnamon Woods Home Owners Association in Germantown, MD.
Another of my exhibits will be shown at the Gaithersburg, MD
Art Center later this year.
